What
are Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are a wonderful way to improve your appearance
and correct shape, size and color of front teeth. Stained
teeth, crooked teeth, teeth with spaces and chips can often
be improved with porcelain veneers. We feature precision porcelain
veneers that match the look and feel of natural teeth. Our
veneers are fabricated by DaVinci Laboratories, the internationally
renowned dental laboratory seen on the popular television
show "Extreme Makeovers"; and expertly fitted by
Dr. Meier. For more information on DaVinci veneers visit www.davinciveneers.com.
What
is the best and safest way to whiten your teeth?
There are so many whitening options available that a consumer
has no idea what to believe!
We here at Meier Dentistry believe that because you have
only one set of teeth it is best to have your teeth professionally
whitened in the safest and most effective manner. We have
been involved in tooth whitening since its inception on the
late 1980's. No one whitening system is best for every one
and we carefully monitor the whitening process.
It has been our experience that the safest and most effective
system involves custom whitening trays which conform to the
tooth surface and make contact with the entire tooth. Strips
for example, can create stripes! This also minimizes contact
with the gum tissue as the whitening chemical can cause some
gum sensitivity. We then prescribe the best whitening system
and gel for you.
One fallacy is that "lights" or "lasers"
enhance whitening, however, no light yet evaluated has enhanced
whitening results (Clinical Research Associates, March 2003).
Whitening works by oxidizing the organic proteins that are
absorbed in tooth enamel and is a result of aging. Natural
teeth accumulate brown-orange-yellow stains and a dingy appearance
over time which is significantly reduced by tooth whitening.
Surprisingly, professional tooth whitening isn't significantly
more costly when the costs of popular over-the-counter whitening
systems are added up. Just think what we spend on beauty and
grooming products! What could possibly make you look better
than a whiter and brighter smile?
At Meier Dentistry we also offer Zoom
whitening, the whitening system featured on the television
show Extreme Makeover. Zoom is a scientifically
advanced tooth whitening procedure. Its safe, effective
and fast, very fast. In less than an hour your teeth will
become dramatically whiter. In office whitening is for anyone
looking for immediate results making it ideal for the busy
individual. Do you have a special party or a wedding coming
up? If you need it now, you need Zoom. You can

What is bonding?
Composite bonding is a procedure that uses a composite plastic
or resin material to adhesively bond to a tooth and can be
used to fix chipped or cracked teeth, fill in missing areas
or hide discolorations. People from all over the Fox Valley
seek Dr. Meier's expertise for their composite bonding procedures.
What
about tooth colored fillings?
We at Meier Dentistry are proud to be one of the few and first
practices in the area to discontinue the use of mercury containing
fillings. Newer tooth colored matched fillings are stronger
and match the color of the tooth! These are often used to
replace older mercury silver fillings which can expand and
contract, leak and crack teeth over time. It is our mission
to conserve and strengthen teeth to help them last a lifetime.
Can
crowns look real and natural?
Absolutely yes!! When a tooth is cracked, decayed or damaged,
a crown may need to be fitted to the tooth. A crown is a covering
that is permanently fitted over the original tooth. Newer
bonded ceramic and porcelain crowns with no gray area along
the gumline allow us to make teeth that look like natural
teeth. These can be used to replace older technology metal
and porcelain crowns. They are also great for people with
sensitivities to metals.
